Recently my Mom took out her box of things from Japan while Brenna was at her house. We had two Japanese exchange students when I was little and they both brought us lots of gifts and different things from their country, which my Mom has kept for 15+ years. Very cool stuff though! Brenna loved looking at everything and became obsessed with chop sticks. She brought them to me when she found them and asked me how to use them. When we had the first girl stay with us it took me (and my whole family) quite a while to learn how to use those funny little sticks to eat with, so I figured my 7 year old was not going to understand right away but I showed her anyways. That kid put those things in her hand and did it right the first time she tried. Needless to say, I was rather impressed (but when am I not with her?).
Tonight she was going to use them during dinner but we forgot. So I cut up some cantaloupe for dessert and she ate the whole bowl using her chop sticks. It was pretty cool and she got a huge kick out of it!
She told me today - "Mom, I want to take a vacation to Japan! I'll wear Grandma's kimono and put my hair up with chop sticks so that I'll fit in with the locals." LOL :) Oh that girl cracks me up!!!
